From Sheets to Finished Vanity Tops: The GELO Fabrication Process

Follow the GELO solid surface vanity top fabrication process, from precision cutting and seamless joining to sanding, pre-assembly, packaging, and final installation.

Creating a finished vanity top involves much more than cutting a solid surface sheet to size. Dimensions, basin openings, joints, edges, backsplashes, and connections must all be fabricated to match the project design.

At GELO, solid surface sheets are transformed into finished vanity tops through a clear production process. From cutting and joining to pre-assembly and packaging, each stage prepares the top for a smooth final installation.

1. Precision Cutting

The fabrication process begins with solid surface sheets and the approved project dimensions. Each sheet is cut according to the required vanity top length, depth, layout, and shape.

Openings for basins, faucets, and other fixtures are also prepared according to the drawings. Accurate cutting is essential because every component must align correctly during joining, pre-assembly, and installation.

Whether the project requires a compact single vanity top or a longer multi-basin design, precise cutting creates the foundation for the finished product.

2. Joining the Vanity Top Components

After cutting, the individual pieces are joined to form the complete vanity top. These components may include the main countertop, front edge, side details, backsplash, and sections around the basin area.

Careful joining helps create the smooth, visually continuous appearance associated with solid surface fabrication. Once the joints are finished, the separate pieces appear as a coordinated surface rather than individual components.

For larger vanity tops that need to be transported in sections, the connection points are planned in advance so the sections can be aligned and joined during final installation.

3. Coved Joint Fabrication

Where the vanity top meets the backsplash or upstand, a **coved joint** can be fabricated to create a smooth curved transition.

Instead of a sharp internal corner, the coved detail connects the horizontal and vertical surfaces with a continuous curve. This gives the vanity top a clean, integrated appearance and makes the corner easier to wipe and maintain.

The coved joint is carefully shaped and finished as part of the overall fabrication process, ensuring that it matches the surface and surrounding details.

4. Fine Sanding and Finishing

Once the vanity top has been joined and shaped, the surface, seams, edges, and coved areas are sanded.

This step removes uneven transitions, refines the fabricated details, and creates a consistent finish across the entire vanity top. Particular attention is given to visible joints, basin areas, front edges, and backsplash connections.

Fine sanding brings the different components together visually and gives the finished top its smooth, uniform appearance.

5. Pre-Assembly and Inspection

Before packaging, the vanity top components are pre-assembled for inspection. This stage allows the overall dimensions, joint positions, basin openings, backsplashes, and connections to be checked as a complete set.

Pre-assembly is especially important for long vanity tops, multi-basin counters, and projects supplied in several sections. It helps confirm that the individual parts fit together as intended before they leave the workshop.

After the inspection is complete, the components are prepared for packing in the correct installation sequence.

6. Secure Packaging

Finished solid surface vanity tops require careful protection during transportation. The surface, edges, corners, basin openings, coved joints, and other fabricated details are packed securely to reduce the risk of damage in transit.

Separate sections are organized and identified so they can be handled more efficiently when they arrive at the project site. Proper packaging helps ensure that the quality achieved during fabrication is maintained through delivery.
